About Salon Mapper

Salon Mapper is an independent guide to walk-in budget hair-salon chains in the United States -- how they compare, what a first visit is like, and how to skip the wait. We used to run a store-by-store location directory; we took it down (see below) and are now guide-only.

What we cover

Our guide focuses on the value-priced, walk-in segment of the hair-cut industry: franchises and chains where you can usually walk in without an appointment, expect a haircut in under 30 minutes, and pay roughly $15 to $30 for an adult cut.

Why we removed the store directory

Salon Mapper previously listed individual store addresses, hours, and phone numbers for 2,353 storefronts. We removed that directory after finding we could not verify the underlying location data against the chains' real store locations -- addresses and ZIP codes did not reliably match the cities they were listed under. Rather than leave inaccurate store listings live, we took the directory down. To find an actual nearby location, use the chain's own official store locator, linked from each chain's page in our guide.

Why walk-in salons matter

Appointment-only salons can be wonderful — but they're not always practical. A working parent on a school day, a traveling consultant in a strange city, a teenager who suddenly hates their bangs — none of them have time to book three weeks out. The walk-in salon model exists for exactly those moments. By cataloging every chain in one place, Salon Mapper makes it just as easy to compare hours and distance for a $20 walk-in chair as it is to compare hotels.
